Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee – Nation Leader and Martyr of Article 370

India had gained its freedom and all groups, leaders from different beliefs came forward the country in right direction and make citizens feel the pride and importanceof the country. They might have difference in opinions but they all had deep yearning for taking the country forward. Some didn’t want to compromise in ANY manner their dedication and belief in united Nation and they even wentvto extent of giving everything to country, even life.

One such great personality is Syama Prasad Mookerjee. A proficient politician, all knoedgable and was equally loved by his followers and critics for his clarity of deep thinking for Nation. His works on Education and women empowerment and importance of the participatory democracy.

Before political biginings

๐Ÿ“š In 1923 he gained MA degree in Bengali and became fellow of senate in 1923.
๐Ÿ“š He completed his B.L. in 1924. In 1926 He persued further proficiency in law in England .

๐Ÿ› In 1934, at the age of 33, he became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta where he brought about transforming improvements to university. Rabindranath Tagore who has come to address convocation in his university.

First taste of politics

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Mukherjee started his political career in 1929, when he entered the Bengal Legislative Council as an Indian National Congress (INC) candidate representing Calcutta University. However, he resigned the next year when the INC decided to boycott the legislature.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ in 1937, was elected as an independent candidate in the elections which brought the Krishak Praja PartyAll India Muslim League coalition to power and served as Finance minister. Year later he resigned .

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Mukherjee joined the Hindu Mahasabha in Bengal in 1939 and became its acting president that same year.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ In 1942 when severe floods caused a heavy loss of life and property. He resigned on 20 November 1942 accusing the British government of trying to hold on to India under any cost and criticised its repressive policies against the Quit India

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ He was elected as the President of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha in 1943.He remained in this position till 1946.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 15 April 1947, in Tarakeswar, hec was authorised to take steps for ensuring partition of Bengal and Hindu majority were in Indian side of partitioned Bengal.

After independence

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru inducted Mukherjee into the Interim Central Government as a Minister for Industry and Supply on 15 August 1947.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Mukherjee resigned along with K.C. Neogy from the Cabinet on 8 April 1950 over a disagreement about the 1950 Delhi Pact with Pakistani Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan.

Founding Jana Sangh

After consultation with M. S. Golwalkar of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Mukherjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh on 21 October 1951 in Delhi.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ BJS won 3 Indian Parliamentary seats and He had formed the National Democratic Party within the Parliament. It consisted of 32 members of the Lok Sabha 

J&K Special status

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Syam Prasad Ji was an absolute bbeliever in india as one united nation and Kasmir as integral part of India. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ He was completely against Article 370 . He considered article 370 as Indias failure and refered to Sheik Adbullah as separatist who on delibrarate intent to rule and loot Kashmir was doing this.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ He raised his voice strongly against the provision in his Lok Sabha speech on 26 June 1952.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Bharatiya Jana Sangh along with Hindu Mahasabha andย Jammu Praja Parishadย launched a massive Satyagraha to get the provisions removed.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ He felt very bad that an Indian has to take permit to visit Kashmir.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Soon his movement to ensure unison of Kashmir in India caught pace and many joined. He clearly understood the challenges if unision of Kashmir took time , especially with separatist problems.๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ in Kashmir,  Chef minister was reffered as Prime minister.  These really made it clear to Syam Prasad Ji that India shouldn’t tolerate people like Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah as said;
In August 1952, he declared to a huge gathering in Jammu

Either I will get you the Contitution of India  Or put all my efforts to end of my life

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Sheik Abdullah actually mistreated backward Dogras to drive out all and claim as much land and make up as much property.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 1953 Syama Prasad  made up his mind to visit Kashmir without permit which then was illegal.  He along with his supporters along the Punjab route setoff towards Jammu & Kashmir.  On his way he gave a clear statement that people of india didn’t need to take permit to visit Kashmir which is integral part of India.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ He made it clear that the purpose of the movement was to make it clear to public that the Kashmir was becoming a third country. 
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ The following evening Syama Prasad Mookerjee was arrested at Lakhan pur which was 2 mile in to Jammu from there he was taken to Srinagar Central Jail and coupff from any outside contact.

Mysterious Death Circumstances

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ On 22nd June 1053 he was admited to hospital with complaint of fever. He was administered streptomycin injection even though he refused.

On 23 June he died an untimely death.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Many had raised voice to set an Indipendent enquiry including . Some sources did say that Syama did complain sense of severe burning and drifting into un conscious
Syamas Mother but Nehru clearly refused and said it was needles.
Nehru said. .

I am convinced that there’s no need of any investigation.

Journey of BJS to BJP

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ BJS always raised voice over akhand Bharat consdering J&K, Kuth, Punjab. They also raised voice over oppression of backward population being oppressed by wealthier section of the society.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ RSS couldn’t come into politics as it’s a cultural body, yet some member could  volunteer support to BJS to form new party and work towards creating modern India which essentially also carries forward the culture and soul of India.๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ After Syama Ji death it was assumed that BJS would fall but a lion heart Vajpayee ji took over .
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 1957 election BJS won 4 seats in Loksabha. Vajpayee made his debut in parliament and soon LK Advani Ji joined to help him in Delhi.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 1962 Loksabha BJS got 14 seats. 1967 BJS won 35 seats. The difficult phase came with sudden death of Deendayal Upadhyay under mysterious circumstances. Vajpayee had to take role of BJS National Chairman. 1970 LK Advani joined Rajya Sabha. 1971 BJS got 22 seats. 1972 Advani became chairperson of BJS.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 1975 Jayprakash Narayan with support of BJS carried out rallies and public meetings against the attrocities of then government of Indira Gandhi. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 25 June 1975 , Indira Gandhi forced Emergency across nation just to save her and family skin. Many were arrested and put behind jail. This being darkest chapter of “Murder of Democracy “
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Elections in 1977 put congress out of power  completely out of power and new alliance JanataParty was formed.  But it fell soon. It’s here that BJP was formed as a party of its own identity.๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 1984 election BJP  won only 2 seats but in 1985 it rose to 85. Year 1991 BJP got 120 seat and it’s seat share increased in many states. 
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 1996 BJP got 161 seat  but the government lasted 13 days.  1998 BJP got 182 seats and government lasted 13 months.  1999 BJP again won 182 seats and formed government
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ 2014 BJP again won with Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of India. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณTo conlude Syama Prasad was not just olitician, but also his key achivements being formation of west Bengal , Punjab and his fight for Kashmir. He continues to be inspiration for many young Indian and stands as beacon towards dream of united modern India.  JAI HIND.
